Appearance

Texas banded geckos are tiny lizards that live on land and rarely grow to be more than 4 inches (10 centimeters) long. They have yellow and brown or pink stripes along their bodies that are often accentuated with black and that may or may not be spotted with black. There are distinct bands on hatchlings and juveniles, which grow more mottled in the adult gecko.

Habits and Lifestyle

They are nocturnal and mostly feed on insects and other tiny arthropods. They have the ability to speak and may make squeaking noises, especially in response to being harmed or touched. In the late spring, the gecko lays one or two eggs that are disproportionately large for its body size.
