Animal name origin

Egyptian mastigure, Egyptian spiny-tailed lizard, and, specifically, Uromastyx aegyptia leptieni (see below), Leptien’s mastigure are all common names for U. aegyptia.

A tribute to German herpetologist Rolf Leptien inspired the naming of this subspecies as leptieni.

Appearance

Males of the species U. aegyptia typically reach a length of 76 cm (30 in), making them one of the longest species in the genus.
