Sulcata Tortoise For Sale
Some of the most popular species of tortoises for sale in the world are African Adult Sulcata Tortoises. Growing quickly and producing a high quantity of eggs per clutch, a baby Sulcata tortoise is also affordable. The Sulcata is typically less expensive than other types of baby tortoises for sale. At Tortoise Town, we sell beautiful African Sulcata tortoise hatchlings that were raised in captivity.
Baby Sulcata hatchlings, well-started babies, juveniles, and adults are available in Tortoise Town. Last but not least, none of our tortoises were ever caught in the wild; they were all raised in captivity. Our baby Sulcata for sale are the cutest in the whole country!
Lifespan:
Did you know that the Sulcata tortoise can live between 80 and 100 years? The African Spurred tortoise is a long-lived animal that might outlive its owners. Because of this, you must take this into account when making your purchase. The tortoise will also get very big in about 4 to 5 years, so you need to think about how big it will be when it’s grown up when you build its habitat.
Appearance:
When it comes to African spurred tortoises, males are typically much bigger than females. A deep concavity can be found in the back half of the plastron of adult male Sulcata tortoises. Also, the male African Spurred tortoise has long, thin tails that end in a horny, curving spur. Second, female Sulcata tortoises for sale look more rounded.
Because female Sulcata tortoises have less pronounced features and short, blunt tails. Also, the shell of an adult Sulcata tortoise is a uniform brown color. Last but not least, the plastron, head, and limbs are all yellow. In contrast, young Sulcata for sale have a pale yellow carapace with brown scutes, a yellow-white plastron, and lighter areoles on the carapace plates.
Habitat:
Due to their large size, it can be difficult to keep a baby Sulcata tortoise inside once it grows up. Please think carefully about this before you buy. A tortoise table, in our opinion, is the best indoor tortoise habitat for a Sulcata tortoise hatchling. The complete kit for a tortoise habitat is available here. A Spurred hatchling should be about 2 feet by 2 feet, but Sulcata hatchlings will outgrow this size very quickly (at 3 years old they can exceed 12 inches). Before buying an African tortoise for sale, we advise doing this. (You can buy a young spurred tortoise)
Temperature
Keeping your Sulcata happy and healthy also means keeping the right temperature in your enclosure. It’s ideal to provide a gradient that goes from 82 to 99 during the day. The temperature at night should be between 77 and 82 degrees. Keep in mind that the basking area should always be between 94 and 99 degrees Fahrenheit, even though it can drop at night. Sulcata for sale, like all tortoises, require thermoregulation. A range of temperatures is essential for proper thermoregulation in tortoises.
Humidity
A lot of what goes into raising a healthy baby Sulcata tortoise for sale is humidity. As a general rule, baby Sulcata for sale need more humidity than adults. Humidity is essential for survival as well as proper shell growth and appearance. Tortoises that are kept in places that are too dry will eventually perish from dehydration.
Even if you soak your baby tortoise every day, if the humidity is kept below 50%, the animal will start to get worse within a few weeks of arrival. At Tortoise Town, we advise using a substrate that is 4 inches deep and can be sprayed down with water every morning. You can make a humid “microclimate” for your baby Sulcata for sale tortoise to sleep in by spraying the substrate.
Diet
It is advised to feed a high-quality diet that includes a wide range of greens and vegetables. If you were wondering, “What should I feed a Sulcata tortoise?” or What is the proper diet for a Sulcata tortoise? You’ve come to the right place! We chop and mix fresh greens and vegetables every day and feed five days a week. Collard, mustard, and beet greens are used in Tortoise Town. We also use Romaine, Kale, Spring Mix, Mazuri tortoise chow that has been soaked and softened, squash, tomato, and zucchini. Baby Sulcata enjoy a wide variety of greens, vegetables, and weeds.
Supplements
Calcium and supplements, including vitamin D3, should be dusted or sprinkled on food twice a week. It is also important to make sure that your tortoise gets enough UVB exposure so that it can make and use Vitamin D3. Your tortoise won’t be able to digest or metabolize the calcium you add to its food if UVB is not available. Tortoise Town dusts our food twice a week with a 50/50 mixture of calcium, vitamin D3, and Vionate.
Water
Give your baby Sulcata plenty of water at all times. Every day for 5–10 minutes or until your tortoise poops, you should soak it in water. Whichever comes first, bath time is over! Make sure to use water that is VERY shallow. Even 15 seconds in deep water will quickly kill your new tortoise.
Size
Large animals, African Spurred tortoises are. They are the third largest tortoise in the world. Adult Sulcata tortoises can grow to be 24–28 inches long and weigh up to 150 pounds. Depending on the age chosen, baby Sulcata tortoises from Tortoise Town arrive as hatchlings or well-started babies and grow slowly. Sulcata are typically 10–12 inches long and weigh 30–40 pounds at age 10. Sulcata tortoises are big and bossy. Check out the leopard tortoise for sale if you’re thinking about buying a spurred tortoise but they’re a little too big.
Hatchlings
If you like the African Sulcata but think it’s too big to keep as a pet, you might like the Leopard tortoise instead. Leopard tortoises don’t get as big as the African Sulcata tortoise, also known as the African Spurred tortoise. Due to lower egg counts and a smaller supply of baby leopard tortoises for sale, leopard tortoises are a little more expensive. We raise both leopard tortoises and Giant South African Leopard tortoises at Tortoise Town. Remember that one shipping fee covers up to four turtles or tortoises for sale.
